Trnovačko jezero is often called one of the most beautiful mountain lakes anywhere, and it is famous for one thing in particular: it is shaped like a heart.
It is a long day, and worth it. We drive two and a half hours from Sarajevo to the start of the trail, then hike five kilometres to the lake. Lunch is a picnic on the shore, and anyone who wants to can go for a swim. All along the way you have Maglić in view — the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Then we walk back the way we came and drive home. Entry to both national parks, Sutjeska and Piva, is included in the price.
The day
- 2½-hour drive from Sarajevo to the trailhead
- 5 km hike to Trnovačko lake
- Picnic lunch on the shore — and a swim, for anyone who wants one
- Maglić, the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in view along the way
- Hike back and drive home to Sarajevo
